List of Competencies

To become an AICIP certified in-service inspector, applicants must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and capability. These competencies reflect the practical and technical expectations of inspection professionals and ensure inspectors can perform their duties responsibly, accurately, and consistently across a wide range of pressure equipment scenarios.

Competency is defined as the combination of knowledge, skills, and their reliable application to the standard required in industry practice. AICIP does not prescribe how this competency is gained, whether through training, qualifications, experience, or a combination of all three.

A “Competent Person” is understood to be someone who has acquired the capability to perform required tasks through appropriate learning and experience. The following list outlines the core competency areas assessed as part of AICIP certification.
